The play tells the story of the god-cursed life of Tiresias, the
soothsayer who plays such a pivotal role in the story of Oedipus. Gifted
with the ability to see the past and future as easily as the present,
Tiresias was also cursed by Hera to live much of his life as a woman.
Told from the perspective of Tiresias as an adolescent boy, a grown
woman, and the old, blind man he would eventually become, the play
examines one man’s relationship with his own destiny, and asks whether
the future of mankind is ultimately a comedy or a tragedy.
